Landscape architectural firm Wesley Stout Associates (WSA) developed the master plan for the newly renovated Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk, Connecticut. Spearheading the 3-year multi-phased renovation for the 1924 golf club, WSA was brought in to update the Golf Club into the 21st century. Focusing on a wholescale renovation to the Main Clubhouse, the existing Tennis Building, and the erection of a new Pool / Snack Bar Building within its existing footprint and to comply with current FEMA regulations. The project also involved a massive exterior renovation including a recrafted arrival experience, improved circulation relationships and ADA compliant routes, a new main dining terrace and outdoor bar, new linkages, hardscapes, planting, and site lighting throughout. Having prime-level involvement from project onset, LA’s spearheaded the master-planning effort, which achieved the necessary club-wide consensus through a series of iterative presentations, involving budget reconciliation, phasing approach, and regulatory analysis in the “Post-Sandy” world.
Rich in history and cultural value as Kevney Moses, Associate Principal, and ASLA/LEED AP BD&C points out the plan addressed linkages, member experiences, arrival primacy, queueing, and resolved conflicts between pedestrian and vehicular circulation.
Touching most edges of the campus core, WSA was charged to thoughtfully blend old and new while establishing new design standards to enhance overall club character and identity. Additional focus was put on providing multiple outdoor dining and social spaces including a central terrace, outdoor bar, and firepit feature that overlooks the golf course and Long Island Sound beyond. Shorehaven is now reborn and well positioned for a thriving future.
O&G’s Masonry Division supplied natural stone products, Bluestone caps and steps, and Ash Granite pavers to complete the natural setting that weaves the clubhouse, pool, and tennis facilities in a glorious outdoor experience for members and their guests to enjoy. This was a transformative project that brought back future vitality to this coastal gem.
